12/23/2004: Housesitter robot

Um, OK: according to the full story, this thing didn't fly out of someone's nose. It's actually a $30,000 robot that, well...

...can alert homeowners to burglars or housesit for their pets -- and, when not at work, lounge about and be "beautiful."

This serves as notice to the Japanese culture. You have arrived. You are now officially at the point where your money creates its own reasons to be spent.

HOUSESIT their PETS? Howzat? Maybe you put your hamster into it and let it operate it?

However, apparently there is a market for the British artists IotD keeps featuring: Designed by British artist Paul White, "Roborior" weighs 3.25 kilograms (7.15 pounds) with a height of 27 centimeters (10.8 inches) and can run at up to 19 centimers per second.

I'm betting you can network it and call your house and get real time cam shots.

actually it doesn't do the cleaning on its own. it recruits slave labor very effectively though.

I don't think the items Roosta was looking for are for cleaning...

... How come we don't have a "self-love" emoticon?

If these things work fairly well, I want a divorce. With it's surveillance techniques, maybe get grounds for one?

I don't get it. Does the robot move about and fill the pet's water dish? A $75 netcam can do the watching part.

It looks like the love child of a lava lamp and a soap bubble...
