The voices in my head merely provide some sort of guidance...

For the record, I would like to state that I brought this up to UT almost a month ago. However, seeing how dham is playing with his forum, I finally decided to go with it.

Okay, so what I'm going to do with this...shit, I have no idea. Originally, I was going to set this up as a private forum and move my mailing list from Yahoo! Groups to here. But, 1) I don't want to put UT through any hard time trying to add people and 2) The folks on my mailing list are probably already scarred from the fact that Yahoo! took over eGroups who took over onelist. Okay, so maybe the second one isn't THAT real.

So...hmmm. You all know that I love cheesesteaks. And most of you probably know that I'm from St. Louis. And that I like Depeche Mode. And that I think Australians are the biggest assholes on the planet. Damned penal colonists. Just kidding jag...

So, what's new in Sycamoreland these days...

--I quit my job. My last day is the 20th. No, I don't quite have a new job yet. Yeah, not the best of ideas. God, I fucking hate my job though. I feel absolutely no satisfaction feeding people's addiction to technology. That, and my boss is...ummm, we'll save that for next Thursday. *shrugs* This isn't the first time I've done this (see some of my posts from June and July) though. And although I may have to bide my time a bit, I've been a resume-posting machine...and am optimistic that I will be a good fit for someone's company. I'll elaborate further in another thread.

Hey, anyone willing to look at my resume and give it an honest critique? I could use any help I can get.

--New domain. I've already gushed about this on another post. Man...that is the best $24 I've spent while half-crocked in ages.

--Saturday: This coming Saturday is the first one I've had off for in 5 months. I almost forgot what that's like.

--St. Louis Rams: God's Team is marching to a glorious matchup in New Orleans against the Raiders or Steelers in the Super Bowl. Kurt Warner is my idol. His arm has been kissed by the Lord. Marshall Faulk is a beast. I never thought I'd see the day where St. Louis actually had a winning football team, after years of dealing with the disappointment of the Cardinals, and the first 4 years the Rams were in St. Louis.

That will do for now...

You've got to listen to the voice. I listen to the voice but I always give it a little time to be sure its not just a short term greivence. The idea of me giving someone else career advice may be a little silly though lets see among other things .... dishwasher, stock boy, electrician, electronic assembler, mat'l handling supervisor, GED teacher, tutor, substitute teacher (history), bike shop guy, at home Dad, land surveyer, home builder, and organic farmer. A long strange trip thats just begun. From what you've written you're at least focused on custumer service so your resume probably could be made to look purposeful. Anyway good luck man I hope you find your path, I'm starting to believe in mine.

Word up, syc. I'd been thinking about it for a while too, but I only finally asked Tony a couple days ago. Or maybe it was a week. I dunno.

I definitely hope to see some cool shit here from you, seeing as I can't get to Tripod from work (wahoo! Nice filter, guys!). That, incidentally, is why I've never went to your web page I always forget when I'm at home. Anyway...

I know you know this, but I'll reinforce it: you should definitely be quitting if you don't enjoy your job. And since you won't be employed, you should definitely be driving down here and bringing me a cheesesteak. Man, that would rule. I know a really good Thai place right near my building, too. We could hit some pad gai, which must be the most perfect food in the entire world. Then hit the Silver Diner across the way for some tasty strawberry malts.

As for Australians being that way... I've personally found more Britons to be snotty than anyone else. But that might just be because I've had more experience with them. They're generally super nice around you, but if they think there are no Americans around, they start slinging insults. I'm not saying all of the British are like this, but certainly a majority of those that I've come in contact with have had a thing or two to say about the US and its citizens. I guess I'm usually more disappointed than anything; country-bashing makes no sense whatsoever. It's just penis envy, I think - we have more, so you hate us.

Anyway. I hope you do some cool things with the forum. Like maybe making a Sycamore's Pic O' The Day. Or whatever. But I'll definitely be reading it regularly (like I do everything else on the Cellar).

Rho's company just put in a new system this past week. She can only surf online before 8am, between 12:30 and 1:30, and after 5pm. And the sites that are permanently banned include web-building sites (like Tripod), web mail (like yahoo or hotmail), and job resource sites (like Headhunter).

Of course, I can only access our company's intranet, UPS, the Postal Service, and FedEx. What a crock of shit...

Okay, so maybe you didn't read that right. I will not have a job as of Thursday. Which means, instilling conservative monetary policies.

If I am able to get my car fixed in the next week or so, I might take you up on that. My poor car needs a tune-up, a tranny fluid change, and I need to have the exhaust system checked. Things I haven't been able to do b/c of my work schedule. And besides, the plates on our car are due for renewal next month, so I'll have to head south in the next few weeks anyway (b/c we still have Maryland plates on our car...long story).

That actually started as a joke, but in my experiences...

The French are the worst. It could be my self-fulfilling prophecy, but the ones I have met are not very nice.

Canadians are generally cool.

Most South Americans are decent...I know a handful from Argentina and Brazil.

Scandanavians, Finns, and Italians are great. Some of my best online buddies are from Sweden or Finland. I have a friend from Milan who is always wanting to know more about life in America.

I used to have a few friends over in the UK, and they were generally alright. They seem a bit more "refined" than us, but that's just them...I don't find them to be unusually snotty.

The Irish are great.

The Australians I know are cool as well. When it comes to talking to them on the phone though, that's another story. $10 says that if I ever talked to jag, I wouldn't understand a damned word he says. A friend of mine in Brisbane called me once...I had to keep asking her to repeat everything. I think part of it had to do with a bad phone connection, but my hearing is not the best, and I just could NOT understand what she was saying.

You may have a point as a whole on the issue of envy. I think a lot of foreigners don't like America b/c we have plenty, and we flaunt it. As an example (and strictly as an example), you (Dham) talking about how you can afford an Xbox. I wish I had extra money to buy a PS2 or a new car or whatever, but I'm not jealous. A European might find that to be a "typical American" attitude. Or that episode of South Park where the kids go to China to play dodgeball. The Chinese commentators kept poking fun at Americans. One of their shots was--"I'll put that on my credit card." Heh...

In my travels online, I've firmly tried to stress that the majority of Americans are NOT assholes. I don't think we are. It's just like the assumption that all blacks are on welfare. A small sample that is ridiculously blown out of proportion.

Once I am done with the job, my typical day will go like this:

10a--Get up, watch TV
10a-12p--While watching TV, searching all the jobsites I have online, and posting to the Cellar.
12p-4p--More TV, maybe a walk or a quick jaunt up to the strip mall up the street from my house.
4p-7p--News...gotta watch the news.
7p or 8p--Dinner
8p--more TV...I'm an NBC whore. More surfing...
1 or 2a--bed

This is how it has worked the last 2 times I was out of work. I will enjoy this for all of a week, then I will desperately want to go back to work.

I'll probably do some little things here on the forum, and probably do some site updating. Incidentally, I've been working on a Philadelphia page off and on for the past few months.

Agreed. Though I try not to flaunt my things. The problem I have is that I see this new toy I got and I'm like "Neat! Other people will think this is neat too!" So I share. But yeah. I try to stress that too. The problem is, I'm an asshole, so it doesn't always work out alright
