10/12/2005: Disarming bomb robot
![]() Fark had this item about a week ago, but until I saw this larger shot, a MSNBC Week in Pics version, it really wasn't all that mind-boggling. This guy walked into a bank in Tucson, Arizona with his cheeks bulging and his mouth taped. He handed the teller a note saying that he had a bomb in his mouth. It's not clear how things went from that situation, to the one pictured above - where the guy is somehow restrained, and a bomb robot is taking the "thing" out of his mouth. Whatever the "thing" is, it turned out not to be a bomb. Not clear from the caption, also, is whether the guy is the would-be robber (and just a little insane), or a pawn of somebody. Weird. |

NOT the collar bomber. Different bank robber.
[quote=CharlieG]That was NOT a movie, but the Erie Collar bombing
That is NOT the collar bomber. It's a much more recent case where the guy in the picture tried to rob a bank by claiming that he had a bomb in his mouth. The bank security managed to lock him to a fence, then cleared the area. They called in the bomb squad who then sent over a robot to check his mouth for explosives. I linked it at the time. He's ex-military, this is the second time he tried to rob that bank, and in that picture, he's handcuffed to the railing by the Bank security guys, who then backed off until the bomb squad showed up.

Anyone who is expert in explosives, here? How much damage could one do with a mouthful of explosives? And what did the note say? "Give me all your money or I'll blow my own head off?"

That was awful, CharlieG. Thanks for the reference, although I only made it through two pages. :retch:
I'm sure that's what I remembered. If it were a movie, it still would have been dumb. As a true life story, it's merely tragic. How sad.

BigV, you're probably thinking of Swordfish. (People strapped with explosives and ball bearings.) There's been much hot air about the (fairly weak, imho) similarities between Erie Collar and Swordfish.
I assume you were thinking of Swordfish, because it was a pretty dumb movie. |
