I agree with this. I don't see how avatars encourages the wrong sort of non-thinking people. Avatars show individuality and it also dresses the board up a little so it doesn't look so boring. I've seen many forums over my years on the internet and this is one of the very few that doesn't allow them.

Of course this is just my opinion and I'm sure you're all thinking I should just shut the fuck up since I'm the newbie.

If you want to put your pic up, you put it in your profile. If someone wants to see your pic, they look at your profile.

Because the profiles are there, I really don't see the point in 'avatars.'

Do we really need to tackify the place, like so many 'tattoos' (so we can express our individuality like everyone else?)

Profiles, people. Profiles.

Besides, I don't want to look at some of your mugs all the time.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to post a giant mind-blowing annoying signature. kthx.

Avatars are rarely someone's own picture.

It's a play on words. Flagatars, Avatars, Tattootars, sigtars...really, anything much more than a concise thought (ahh yes, thoughts) is annoying. Just mho.

But I DID love jimhelm's 10 or 12 flags in his signature he had over the weekend. Brilliant!
