I've never been a fan of gliding, much preferring to have an engine in front of me. However, when the 'ordure interfaces with the air conditioning', having gliding experience can pay dividends. Capt Sullenberger of Hudson River fame is living proof of that.

I love that video. It's amazing how the glider keeps its speed up, and at the very end appears to gain elevation in a thermal.

Great, perfect music for it too. Because gliders use the thermals, rising heated air columns most often found near hills and cliffs(and skyscrapers), similar to a surfer using waves. I wonder if there are rules about how low or close to people/structures you can legally fly?
