1. You're Poll-happy. Stop it. 2. No one here will ever take you seriously until you prove you can spell, type, and have at least a basic mastery of the written English language. And maybe not even then, but at least it's a start. |

Not so bad but needs a little work.....(My limited opinion) Try more sources like Susan Sontag. She wrote a pretty decent book reminiscent of your topic. (if memory serves)
Against Interpretation I'm going to use this opportunity to mention that Susan S. is one bad Mo. Fo. ![]() How's that for the mastery of the English language? ![]() Last edited by flippant; 10-30-2004 at 04:17 PM. |

You have a limited notion of art, defined as one person's reproductive intent. And the thermodynamic equations lost me. but hey, whatever.

OK, now back to topic. Mystic, my critique would be the same as the one I gave you before. You write in a rambling style, and the reader becomes bewildered and lost in the dense thickets of words. I also get the impression that you have not finished thinking through the ideas you toss out. My second suggestion would be to sit down and decide exactly what conclusions you wish your readers to arrive at with you. State your premises and thesis in the first paragraph. Go through your writing with an editor's hard hearted soul, and slash your words down by about half. Grammar and spelling DO count (as many on this board have reminded ME). Poor sentence construction and bad grammar will loose you your reader as fast as anything else. Take a brush-up course at the local community college. I think you may have some interesting ideas beneath all that rubble of verbiage. Clean it all off, so that your thoughts have room to breathe! Last edited by marichiko; 11-01-2004 at 05:31 PM. |

Loose (v): To untie, unbind, unrestrict or to make free. In this case, to no longer compel the reader to continue forward (as all good literature does)
Marichiko now owes me a dollar, for saving her reputation

![]() From the Columbia Guide's discussion of the terms "loose" and "lose"; "The chief spelling problem is the inadvertent misspelling of lose as loose." Yeppers, I meant "lose" - guilty as charged. My mistake and Wolf's sharp eye and sardonic comment serve to illustrate nicely the point I was attempting to make. Last edited by marichiko; 11-02-2004 at 09:55 AM. |

Maybe mystic rythm--or however s/he spells it--is so unbelievably busy being artistic and living life like the rain that s/he can't be bothered with conventional spelling! I'd imagine it's darn tough to have your life be like rain...all soggy and whatnot. Poor devil.
