Linksys Router Help
Hello just got a Linksys 4 port router for my home model BEFSR41 V2. I am having a problem setting it up. On the settings page I only have the option of Netmasks 255.255.255.x My current netmask is 255.255.248.0 This prevents me from connecting through to my ISP. Does anyone have a solution for me?
Thanks, Kurtis |

Got past the first problem
Hello all,
I got past the first problem. 255.255.255.0 worked after a system reboot, don't ask why, I hate GUI interfaces... Next problem, anyone know what port(s) Netmeeting sends video on? I get whiteboard, chat, and connect fine. Just no pic. Thanks again .... Kurtis |

Hi Kurtis,
I have no idea what you're talking about, and have no useful solutions to your problem, as I am not a 'computer person,' however, I noted your arrival here and thought I'd say hello! I'm sure that as soon as everyone recovers from whatever debauchery/chicanery they were involved in last night, you will get plenty of useful guidance from some of the more skilled and informed members of this crowd. See ya 'round the Cellar! 99

Kurtis,
Welcome aboard. The natives are friendly... mostly. You have two ways to go about dealing with the Netmeeting problem. Number one, if your router has a "DMZ" setting you can use that. What that does is allow you to designate one device on your network which has completely unrestricted access to the Internet... no filters, no firewall, etc. This is what I personally do because I'm to lazy to figure out #2 and I always knwo when I'm getting a Netmeeting call (or I don't want it!) The second way is, as you've figured out, to customize the router's firewall to pass the right ports. This Micro$oft Knowledge Base article will give you the skinny: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;158623 |
