Web cartoon strip: Day by Day

I'm enjoying Day by Day, which is very much like Doonesbury except that it's gently right instead of gently left. I grew up on Doonesbury books and this has a familiar feel to it, the right balance of humor and politics so that hopefully one doesn't feel lectured-to.

The strip has regular characters, but like Doonesbury, will feature a shot of the White House to indicate the president:

Or just feature the characters themselves, and it's willing to take jabs at both sides:

It's been running for a few months, so it's in its infancy but shows tremendous promise. (Also like Doonesbury, the strip isn't political every day; it tracks the lives of its regular characters as well.)

<a href="http://www.kevinandkell.com">Kevin and Kell</a> is a side project of Bill Holbrook's (who also does On the Fastrack and Safe Havens). On a given day, it's probably funnier than his two newspaper strips. Techno-savvy, witty, and more "characters that happen to be anthropomorphic animals" than "furry art," if you know what I mean.

<a href="http://www.brunothebandit.com">Bruno the Bandit</a> is a fun medieval-caper strip. The artwork gets noticeably better as the years go by, but the storylines are consistently good.

It was someone here who posted a link to <a href="http://www.somethingpositive.net">Something Positive</a> a while back, so you probably already know about it. DARK humor, wordy captions, and the world's only boneless cat.

<a href="randomaxe.keenspace.com">Random Axe of Kindness</a> is done by a guy I went to school with. (Plug, plug.) It's sort of a slightly-kinder-and-gentler Red Meat. The CafePress merch is witty, particularly the tote bag.

Petes cousin is a starving cartoonist but successful bartender in Seattle Wa. I pulled my only Gannett string for him, so the quiver being empty, I'll just subject you people to him. The Chowder has a lot to do with his life growing up in Portsmouth NH, his attempt to do regular work, and blah blah.

Okay, I'm late on this, but here's my list..

Sinfest, Sluggy, and Kevin and Kell (of course)

User Friendly (Can tend to be a bit heavy on the geekiness, but often amusing)

Sexy Losers and Everything Jake are both updated on a less than daily basis, but I enjoy both. Sexy Losers is very explicit sexually, and very sick and wrong... and I love it. Everything Jake used to be a comedic daily, but it's turned into a serial superhero thang. Nice drawings, but he desperately needs an editor.

Pibgorn, Pearls Before Swine, and Get Fuzzy. They're actually on Comics.com, but I can't find them in any newspapers. Pibgorn is a serial comic about a fairy, a demon, and a church organist (really!). Pearls Before Swine is just.. weird, but funny. By an odd coincidence, my husband and I found out that we're two degrees away from the cartoonist. Turns out that he's a pretty nice guy. Get Fuzzy is pretty popular, I think. It is about a stupid, mean cat; a stupid, nice dog; a smart ferret; and an guy in advertising.

Something Positive was my little gem, and still gets a daily read even if the author isn't 100% consistent.
Schlock Mercenary gets hit every day as well. Interesting premise, more amorphism (I hope that isn't a predictor for my future somehow), good interaction with the author, and lots of BLAM!
There are lots more, but the ones that entertain me the most are Penny Arcade and MegaTokyo. Each three times a week and a pantload of funny.

CrazyKimichi.com (nee KungFool) is an amusing daily, that used to be an intensive weeklyish strip. Complete with quirky and completely random links.

And of course, Tom Tomorrow's strip (in Salon if you subscribe or Working For Change on Tuesdays). But mostly, I read the blog.

But devotedly...

MY personal favorite comic was discontinued by the author, who became burned out. FLEMCOMICS was the one that could still give me a good belly laugh.
