Doctor Who: Fiftieth Anniversary
I've decided this deserves its own thread, It's just...general stuff about Doctor Who in the run up the 50th anniversary of the show's launch.
It's been mentioned already that there are to be commemorative stamps. And there are all sorts of things out there for the fans: a series of free e-novellas one for each Doctor, and a series of novels and audiobooks covering all 11 Doctors too. There's a movie, telling the story of the original series launch, comic book stories, online games etc etc etc. And a nice little blog in the Guardian: The Best Doctor Who Episodes. Detailed review of some of the best and most important episodes from across the history of the show, starting with the very first one, An Unearthly Child. I like the way they're approaching it, like a bookclub ![]() http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-rad...nearthly-child Quote:

Wow, cool.
My little girl was sick the other day; I took off from work to take her to the doctor. Afterwards she mentioned how we used to watch Dr. Who, but haven't watched it in a while--so I asked her, "How about when we get home we snuggle on the couch and watch Dr. Who?" She agreed, great idea. She started by picking the episode "The Girl in the Fireplace."

I've been watching the BBC America specials. A short blurb followed by one Doctor a month all this year. January was Hartnell in "The Aztecs".
The villain in that episode was a dead ringer for Rowan Atkinson - Blackadder in particular.

There are some rather cool commemorative vids and trailers floating about for the anniversary and the special, Day of the Doctor

haven't seen it myself, but...

It appears at least part of what I proposed over in the 'The Doctor is Out' thread is spot on. |
