My own memory, such as it is, has REMF as a product of Vietnam where the ratio between thems that fought and those the supported was something around 1:4 or 5.
Also, I think the use of "grunt" was pretty much referring to Marines. Funny I don't connect REMFs as much with them as I do the other services. Another thing that came about well after I left the Army was "ell tee" for lieutenant. I hate to think what my platoon sergeant would have done to any one who used that form of address.. |
