Many folks here with a Catholic upbringing probably remember the special joy of the "Advent Calendar."
It was a light cardboard calendar, with little windows labelled with the days of December leading up to Christmas. Each day you would open the appropriate window, revealing a picture. What each day held varied based on the style of calendar. Some were religious scenes, stained glass windows, or the more secular versions gave us visions of sugarplums, candy canes, and hard-working elves. There have even been re-usable wooden versions that have spaces for tree ornaments, small toys, and candies. This year, the Advent Calendar moves into the 21st Century. Gentlemen, for your perusal and enjoyment.
