Having people who annoy you on ignore means you can have a more enjoyable web browsing experience without having to see the *trash they write.
I had Bruce on ignore for a while because he was really annoying me at one point. I didn't care what he was saying when I couldn't see his posts, and the fact that I wasn't seeing them meant I didn't respond even if he was saying something about me (and I don't know if he did or not to this day because I never bothered to go back and look. That would have defeated the purpose). It allowed the dust to settle and there doesn't seem to be an issue these days which I'm glad about. I don't care if it was my paranoia or something else, but we couldn't get along at one stage, and not having to deal with the residual irritation every time I signed in here served a purpose and it worked for me. I started this thread because Shawnee and someone else were talking about ignoring a couple of people over the pictures in wtfnsfw and it led me to be curious about whether or not many people actually used the ignore feature or not. I think it's been illuminating. I'm sure plenty of people don't give a shit. *shrugs* Good for them. I don't really mind one way or the other. *Obviously one persons trash is another persons treasure.
