Now this thread is perfect for me: I pick most of my games based on whether or not they've got a good story behind them.
For Nintendo, I favor the Legend of Zelda & Resident Evil series. They've both got good gameplay (though RE takes some getting used to), and the stories are well integrated and superbly written. I've played a number of Mario games, but they generally don't have much to keep my attention for too long. On Xbox, I've got: the first 2 Assassin's Creed games (good choice, by the way) the 2 Mass Effect games currently out Overlord 1&2 (there's actually some pretty impressive morality themes involved) KOTOR 1&2 - gameplay is kinda weird, actually, but the stories are pretty good All the Halo games by Bungie. Don't bother with the RTS, it's a disappointing attempt. &, yeah, I can see why you're disappointed with Reach. It isn't going to be nearly so good without the first 3 laying the foundation. I'd suggest going to a used game store or somewhere and getting a copy of the original. The graphics are downright primitive by comparison, but the story is actually what got me to take on my first shooter game (I hated them before that). The story work in 1, 2, and 3 are sheer brilliance - well written on so many levels that you'll be amazed. If you don't like #1 after all, you won't be out much money, so it's the safe bet. Force Unleashed has a pretty good story, too, but the sequel is lacking in that department almost as much as in quality gameplay. Translation, the first one is worth looking at, but don't even bother with the second. I can't actually remember offhand what else I've got in my game library, because I don't have them handy. In any case, you've certainly chosen the right criteria on which to base your selections. ![]() |
