i read it a few months ago and i thought it was a great book. alot of people criticize it be cause the author was so young and alot of the character and region names seemed borrowed from older, more popular, sci-fi and fantasy novels : eragon/aragorn, haddarach desert, &, so on; and the plot line is hardly original (of course, that can be said about most "chosen one" fantasy novels). however, eventhough it lacked originality, the story wasn't at all predictable.
the characters themselves were well developed and the storyline was well thought out. it was one of those books that was hard to put down and i would catch myself thinking about while i was preoccupied with doing something else.
overall, i thoroughly enjoyed the read and look forward to the sequel and am curious to see if the young author will be able to keep the momentum or if his future books will mimic the MARTIX movies
