I think its best to use the multiquote option when the posts you are replying to have something in common. However, if there is thread drift and those posts aren't, I think it makes more sense to have two separate replies.

I like seeing invisible text - It usually means there is a little funny in there. I agree with Zen.

If I'm trying to embed a funny, I'll usually make it a light color other than white (so you can see that something is there, just not what it is...) Yes, I find it amusing.
