What do you want to do with it?
I don't know the market well. But if it's down to those two, I would take the second one--the performance increase from the Celeron to the Dual Core is probably worth it. |

I don't know that the PC will replace the DVR very well. The only DVR software I know of is MythTV which is a Linux thing. HP doesn't say whether these boxes have video inputs, they don't say whether they have surround sound out, they don't say whether they have HDMI out.
Shrug, I dunno. It looks like a good product. But any computer can act like a server; I use an old PC with Linux on it as our "public" drive. Most computers can browse on the big screen. You might take a look at the Roku-HD as well, that might be more what you want, especially if that receiver has HDMI inputs. |

I have actually heard that the DVR functions of Windows Media Center are nice. Check it out.
[cue Hell freezing] Also XBMC is getting very nice these days. It depends on where you get your content from. If you plan to have cable, IMO it is hard to beat the Tivo. Aside from the basic Tivo functions, you can pull shows off it to watch on your computer or handheld (with some hoop-jumping and/or extra charge for latter), or stream video and music to it from your computer. Does it do everything a loaded "server" would do? No. But at the price (even considering the service charge), I suggest it compares favorably with a "media center PC." The problem for you, zippy, is you can't use one with satellite. DirecTV has been muttering about an HD tivo receiver for years, but it's not here yet. (Tivo's licensing agreement with DirecTV was victimized by its sale to Rupert Murdoch.) If you're looking to "cut the cord" from cable/satellite altogether, you have a completely different calculation of what you need. |

HLJ , Im glad my wife doesnt read this , we would BOTH be in trouble
Steve We had a TIVO thru direct tv , it ROCKED !!! way Easy to use , Verry Easy to Figure out , To many Little things we Loved to mention , it just WORKED !! We have a Direct Tv HD Dvr Now , Its ok , But Aint NO Tivo !! We are Used to the channels we get ( They cost E-Fucking-nough !!!!!!!) It would Be Great to be able to store entire seasons of shows , I have to Blow off or transfer to Dvd to keep the HD cleared up , And Yes I Know I can get Dvd Boxed sets , or stream what ever we want to see from netflix , or Hulu , or where ever I Just like the concept of having a bad ass PC with Killer HD Vid and Surround sound at my disposal
