house cleaning my computer
I am doing some cleaning up of my computer and removing a bunch of unused programs with revo uninstaller. It's pretty cool in that after you uninstall it scans your drive and finds all the crap that is left behind.
Microsoft sucks. One program left behind about 1000 various registry items. FFS

I've been using it. It works wonders!
Don't uninstall a program without it. |

Are you going to tell us what it is, or do we have to guess?

How does Revo compare to CCleaner? Has anybody used them both?

Yes, I use them both, they do things differently and they do different things. Revo uninstaller can be used to install programs and when it does it keeps track of all the crap installed by the program and keeps a file of it. When you go to unistall that program it knows what was added and removes it.
It can also uninstall things it did not install and what it does then is runs the regular uninstaller, then runs a scan of your system looking for reg keys and other detritus and jetsam and asks you if you really truly cross your heart and hope to clean system reinstall want to remove them. Then it does. But it was clever and set a system restore point right before you uninstalled, because it knew deep in its heart that you are a fuck up and can't be trusted. CCleaner doesn't always get all the leftovers that Revo does, and sometimes I will remove everything CCleaner finds and run the scan again and it finds another whole pile of stuff, and then I run it a third time and it still finds another whole pile of stuff. Makes me wonder.

Does anyone have tips or tricks to fix an old Logitech mouse-wheel.
The bottom plate says LX3 Optical Mouse There are no screws to undo, just a slip-fit plastic housing. Everything is still working, except the vertical scroll wheel. It's as if the mechanism is disconnecting from the IR, in spurts of working and not working. |

Many thanks, Glatt. Three little screws were hiding under the stick-on feet, and we're back in business now.
And my Lab, Vicky, thanks you too for helping to find all that hair she lost last month. |

Well done. It's satisfying to fix something. Took you less time than driving to the store to buy a new one. Not to mention it was free.

If I use this program will I find love?
All the pictures on the website are of happy healthy well-adjusted huggy couples. Or do I have to be part of a happy healthy well-adjusted couple who always hug when cleaning their computer to install the program? (Seriously, my old home comp could use this. Imma try it.) |

Please help a MacAddict with a HP-PC issue...
My daughter's PC is starting up with a program "UniBlue Registry Booster 2012" It seems to be scanning for errors in files, much the same way Norton Utilities does on a Mac. It reports it found 480+ errors, and asks if I want to fix the errors, but to fix all of them it requires me to purchase the program. A quick surf of the net finds a review making it seem like a legitimate product... but with some issues. Is there another (free) way to fix such errors - if they are real ? Because it goes into scan mode each time the computer is booted up, Is there a way to get rid of this program ? |
