And streets very often change their names at intersections - just when you are busy negotiating traffic.

"What? If you're going past the hospital you're on Old Kent Road! Turn around, you've gone way too far!"

The street that my residential street empties onto changes names arbitrarily three different times. None of those name changes are at an intersection.
