The late Ben Bradlee, editor of The Washington Post during Watergate, is called “the least dull figure in the history of postwar journalism” in a personal obituary by David Remnick in The New Yorker. Bradlee, who Remnick says was an “expert in the art of florid dismissal”, liked to dictate his correspondence into a recorder but his secretary struggled with his industrial language.
