I have never seen that before. I vaguely wondered why you called your cat that.....

I had a shirt and everything. It was so obvious to me and B,when we picked up our part Siamese/Tonkinese-looking kitten from the house of the people with a big mama cat... Toonces! What goes with Toonces as a middle name? Riley! And he was free. He was the most amazing cat ever.
Damn he was one awesome cat. And he could drive. We just never let him. ![]() Last edited by infinite monkey; 01-07-2015 at 07:05 PM. |

Though I've never been able to verify it, Toonces had to be the brainchild of Steve Martin. It debuted when he guest-hosted and Martin's character was portrayed by Dana Carvey after that. It's so typical Steve Martin. I also really believe that Jack Handey is Steve Martin. For similar reasons. I think the Jack Handey wiki page is completely fabricated. The clues are all there. Look at the picture! Read the articles/books (Sounds so much like Cruel Shoes.) Listen to the audio! Why would he do that? Strictly for creative reasons. For fun. For a lot of reasons. This is my theory.
I love Steve Martin. I mean, I love love Steve Martin! |

Jack Handey is a real person. I thought the same about Toonces and was surprised to read this from Wikipedia, so it has to be true.
Other SNL work[edit] Other Handey pieces that appeared on SNL included Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer,[10] "Fuzzy Memories" which depicted reenactments of a twisted childhood memory and aired in the late 1990s, and the short-lived "My Big Thick Novel", which were spoken excerpts from a very long book in the style of "Deep Thoughts" and which aired during the 2001–03 seasons of SNL. Handey is also credited with creating Toonces, the cat who could drive a car, although badly ("See, I told you he could drive! Just not very well!").[11] The recurring skit originated in 1989 with Steve Martin and Victoria Jackson as the crash-prone kitty's owners. In 1992 NBC aired a half-hour Toonces special. Handey, who owned a real cat by the same name, once said he couldn't remember exactly how he dreamed up the premise. He said, "It was just one of those free association ideas you write down and look at later and think, 'Maybe.'"[11]

And I contend that's all part of the joke. I read those same things. It all just points me in the same direction.
I know I'm right. Wait a minute...are you just messing with me? I really can't see how an intelligent and comedic mind could not come to the same conclusion (despite the fact that everything on the interwebz is true.) |

They don't give Primetime Emmys to ghost writers.

You're right. Even the New York Times is in on it.

For a moment I forgot Al Franken was a senator and chuckled out load when I remembered.
I know he's doing a decent job, but American voters are nuts. I mean seriously, Al Franken is a Senator! How the hell did that happen? |

He made a lot of money from his "Send your receipts to me, Al Franken" campaign on SNL.
