You're right, expensive. How far from the house to garage?
tw will tell you how to run it underground which would save the cost of a weathervane.

With 240v you can get a big air compressor, and welder.

It's 60 feet from the house to the garage. The quote came in at just under 2k.

It's an excellent addition to the garage, so is the heat.

Here's an interesting little video about space heaters. You might consider allocating a dedicated circuit for the heater.

Anything that runs on 220 should be on a dedicated circuit.

The 110 panel is now jumpered, so I can add more 110 breakers if needed
and the 220 in a separate box with it's own ground and supply w a 100 amp main breaker and a 50a breaker on the heater circuit. 60 amp at the box inside, so that 100 will never trip, but if i want to shut it off, I can. The heater has a remote. took it up to comfy from 46 in less than 15 minutes.

All I have in my shop is 110. What do you think of using a "Mr Heater" tank top propane heaters. My shop is 58' X 18' with a 20' open ceiling. Most people around here say go ahead and use it in that big building it will be okay. And that they use them in Ice Fishing Shantys. What do youz guyz think.

That's fine. The products of burning propane are water and CO2. Just be careful where you put it, such that it can't tip over.

That's what I had been using before this new fancy pants electric model i got. Just a pain in the ass to light, and you can't leave it going without supervision for any length of time.

I don't think any unvented systems are allowed in California.
I did use an old gas (jetted for propane) bathroom heater for years. I felt better when I had a CO alarm nearby. |
