I've stolen Randy Pausch's line from The Last Lecture when I say I won the parent lottery. When I was married, my mom was a great MIL, in my opinion. She's very respectful and supportive, and very unobtrusive. She's wonderful; I think my ex would agree.
I did not have a MIL, as ex'es mom died when he was 5 years old. She, by all accounts, was an extremely intelligent and classy woman. But my FIL...I still consider him as a dad. You just couldn't find a better man, with the exception of my dad, and my ex would agree there as well. I crack up when I watch Everybody Loves Raymond because of Marie. Can you imagine? I guess some don't have to imagine, they're living that very thing! ![]()

Gah...both nuts over here. My mom had 5 children so I guess she earned the right. She had 3 crazy boys and no money at first. That's enough for anyone to go out of their mind. She's crazy...I know...but I love her. She taught me a lot of valuable things. My husband however, does not see any good qualities.

Both our mothers are crazy in such unique ways that I couldn't possibly name one as crazier. I like my mother more, but she also pisses me off way worse... Jims mom, meh, we just don't get along.

Aah. My mom called after I posted in this thread. Especially crazy today, like she knows or something...Unusually caustic about the presidential candidates with an air of false secrecy, that being said, my MIL is too crazy to ever speak to, ever...so maybe my MIL wins this category.

Hmmm, not sure what that has to do with my marriage. I know that often coming from a good household makes a good household...but still...
A thousand reasons. A thousand wonder whys. A thousand things to point to yet another hundred what ifs... It's a long long story that I don't retell. Suffice to say we both are at fault, and leave it at that. Ouch, think you hit a sore spot. Pain never really leaves you, does it? ![]()

I think he was referring to them all being great to Shawnee. Including the in-laws.

right... so... ? Mine were not great parents, and weren't nice tobeest for the little time they saw him but I have a good marriage, maybe I'm a lucky exception? Maybe theinverse is not implied? I just don't think the comment has any logical basis

I think what Mr.Foot was getting at was that in many cases the apples don't fall far from the trees upon which they grew. Or in the case of people type persons the parents who totally fucked up their heads. Scratch that, I meant raised them.
So I think Mr. Foot was saying, "Gee, you both liked your parents and in laws, (uncommon) and you both agreed they were swell folks and you still like them, and if you like the parents it might stand to reason that you'd probably like their kid, assuming some of the personality characteristics wore off on them, so if it wasn't an issue like that, then it must have been that you both were making love on top of an enormous pile of cash and you paused, and looked into one another's eyes and said, "This has just got to stop." But then again, I know for a fact that Mr. Foot sometimes has more than his share of beverages.
