Okay, I am no longer mildly irritated. I am pissed off.

I took my car in for its Major Service for 200,000km.
I love it when I have a perfectly good vehicle that a mechanic fucks up trying to be proactive.

Hang in there Zen. might be cheaper to find a used engine at a junkyard....something to look into anyway.

speaking of which:

the trans went out on my Fixed Or Repaired Daily, what was it? a year ago just before xmas? shops around here wanted the same. i called around to salvage yards and found one for 350 bucks? maybe 5? i don't remember. but i can say this, changing that trans was a chore but it was still easier than trying to replace clod's O2 sensors!

Yeah, I always make mine stay at the table till they're finished. The big boys are no trouble, and never have been, but Max is still crappy at eating food. Anyway, maybe one day he'll be better. He's definitely better than he was.

Yeh well I have ZERO tools to work on a Jeep, no time to deal with it and less than no knowledge of that type of repair.

The deal is done. Got the family discount for $1500.
Runs like a champ ... today

Plthijinx, I've looked at that; would be around $3,500 to get a second hand engine fitted. It's a subaru.

About 15 years ago a had a Toyota Hiace and the timing gear when Ka-fluey and probably did other damage inside the cylinder head, so I had the whole engine replaced. They installed a 2nd hand engine with reconditioned timing gear for $900. That was last millennium, though, so officially the olden days.

He managed to eat it in about 5 minutes in the end. After looking at it for an hour.
