I spent quite a bit of time looking for promising new artists, and I think this one might be going places:
ZZ Ward -

In memory of Donna Summer and Robin Gibb, some of the great music they inspired.

Robin on the first vocal: "I can think of younger days when living for my life was everything a man could want to do."

Young punk today looked at my $20 bill and said "Old school twenty" and looked further and said "1990" which was the year stamped on the bill. This was about that time.
Fuck you old school. This is still state of the art. I drove all over Hollywood, looking at the stars First I ate my Milky Way, then I ate my Mars But sucking on a Galaxy, I noticed something pretty bizarre There's not a lot of people there, just a awful lot of cars |

1990. before i was born. whoa.
its weird cause like. I regard 90s TV as being old and dated and shit. 90s movies mostly too. but 80s music is "new" stuff. My musical taste is skewed decades before I was alive. its like a whole different timescale. everything else, i'm a typical cutting-edge kid. musically i'm more my parents' age than my own.

Two songs that are getting a lot of airplay. I like them both, but really I'm posting them because they remind me so much of other artists.
In Somebody I Used to Know, the refrain sounds so much like Peter Gabriel to me. (You didn't have to cut me off...1:33.) We Are Young...when they go into "Tonight we are young" and from there...omg The Beach Boys. Even more so with the "I know that I'm not..." (at 1:30) Also, my three young nieces rode with me in my convertible last Sunday, sunny day, lid down. First time I've had all of them in my car at once. I was playing my radio station (earlier, the oldest one asked me how I knew about a song...I'm like "I'm not THAT old!") and we were all singing along to these songs. They had their hands up. It was so totally cool. (Posted 'lyric' vids because of commercials and half naked peoples.) |

I don't know the We Are Young song, but my wife was just telling me yesterday that my daughter was horrified by the lyrics when it was playing in the car. They just did the drugs and alcohol section in middle school health, and the lyrics about falling down drunk in a bar and friends getting high in the bathroom really bothered her.

I remember my mom not liking the Huey Lewis song I Want a New Drug. I was like 'mom, it's about how he FEELS with this person, not that he really is looking for drugs. Besides, it's just lyrics.'
And good for your daughter: she'll know what to avoid in the future! |

Yeah. Hopefully the brainwashing sticks for a while, and when it wears off, she pays attention to her parents' moderate drinking as an example.
My wife says it's a fun song though. That We Are Young one. |

I'm sure she will. She's being raised well.
It is a fun song. I guess that's why they call the band Fun (but that sounds oh so teeny-bop to me!) Wasn't it Big Fun who sang "Teenage Suicide (Don't Do It)" in the movie Heathers? Oh yes, yes it was! Quote:

The best band no one ever heard of. This is the kind of music that speaks to your soul even if you do not understand the lyrics, this band has a unique sound that is unmatched by anyone else.
