How much time are you willing to waste?

I've noticed a trend of content, like the ugliest jeans for example, that require you to sit through (or multitask through) a short advertisement. I just close the window and skip whatever tantalizing bit of internet rubbish lies at the end of the advert.

I'm sorry, but your content is not scintillating enough for me to waste additional time by looking at an advert. Even useful information on the internet is not worth me letting an ad load. I'm hoping that if enough people click out right away the advertisers tracking analytics or whatever will see that their ad isn't being watched.

But even if they don't care, I don't care even more (or less)

I'm confused... are you talking about on the cellar, or just the use of full screen ads in general on the internet? Those all have a "skip this ad" or "continue to content" button somewhere on the page, you don't actually have to sit through them.

those things make me click away! click away fast! especially if there's no opt out, like on livejournal and CNN clips. I too, want these sites to notice that they just defeat the purpose of getting to the content.

Here's another example that I find very irritating: YouTube etc. videos that have a long introduction (i.e. who made the movie, including their "film production company" title) and/or useless dead space that should have been edited out. Just cut to the good part, you stupid video posters! If I have to wait longer than 5-10 seconds and don't see the reason that I clicked on the video happening yet, I click away and never come back.

In the case of a 30 second advertisement, I will sit through these depending on my level of intereset in the content. Sometimes, I click away almost instantly, as soon as I see the thing. In other cases, such as videos on The Onion, I watch them because I know the video will be funny (I trust the site to have worthwhile content). For some random link to a news clip that I thought I might find somewhat interesting, forget it. I click away and go look at something else.

actually there are some that do not let you click through and freeze your controls.

I hate those things. If I can I click them off right away. If I want to know more about some product, I do a search on google. I really loathe the ones that lock you in and have been known to abandon the entire page when confronted by one.

a similar thing that burns me is on sites with lists, e.g. "50 Beers to Try Right Now" where you have to page through all fifty fucking items. Just give me the list and let me click through from there, dammit!

Me neither, too.

I'll sit thru them if they're 15 sec ads. I have to really want to see it to sit thru a 30 sec ad.

That's just how I roll.

the other thing they are doing is running an ad in a frame at the top, so you scroll down to where you want . . . and then the frame goes away, forcing you to scroll back up again. grr.
