It had to be done, it had to be done
I wandered around, and finally found The somebody who could make me be fun Could make me be blue or even be glad Just to be sad just thinking of one Some others I've seen might never be mean Might never be cross or try to be boss But they wouldn't pun For nobody else gave me the thrill With all your faults I love you still It had to be done It had to be done It had to be done

actually its not Wang to Wong, its just a different pronounciation of a. not 'a' as in 'raft' - 'a' as in 'watch'.

Actually, you didn't spell out the phonetic equivalent of Wang. You simply gave an example of the vowel usage. In casual conversation, Wong (Wawng) is very close and more than adequate for the point I was making. I've had my own surname translated into Chinese and it was done exclusively by the sound of it with my written name in English being rejected for the purpose of translation.
BTW, the explanation I gave is actually derived from an explanation given to me by my sister-in-law. She was born, raised, and educated in China. She immigrated to the US as an adult, did a second residency here, and is now a practicing physician (family practice doc) in northern CA. Her maiden name is Wang. |

Drift?! There's no drift here, I assure you. To have drift, one must first have direction. Or at least snow.
