Hmmm. Thanks Sundae Girl.

But as much as everyone gets along with LJ I doubt I will ever like him.

He says he wouldn't attack someone's vulnerability but he definitely repeatedly knocked me up and down about my girlfriend issues, which is the initial reason I joined this place. I found that to be the sole reason why I dislike him immensely. Then he apologizes for antagonizing me, then he keeps antagonizing me. Joke or not, his personality is something that I might never warm up to. All in all, he's a big dick, to me, personally. That's my 2 cents.

Cloud is right. This is a hard crowd and all of us "fucking newbies" as jinx called us in the NSFW dwellar thread are still having trouble transitioning to the well established.

The whining and the belly-aching just makes it worse for yourself. Toughen up. If you need to be liked by everyone this isn't the place for you (because xoB already filled that position...).

Jeb and Fresh, I think both of you have a big misperception about people that are 20 or 30 years older than you. Adults usually act in the same way as most college kids do but just have better restraints and taste due to experience. Where I work, the youngest person I work with is twice my age so I have interacted with older adults consistantly for a month or so and this has really changed my view on that.

Another reason you two may feel picked on is because this board does have a tendency to discriminate on age a lot. Sometimes this is founded sometimes it can go overboard. The whining, yes you guys are whining, and talking like life is so unfair will not help your case.

Basically just ignore or accept him and don't take his jokes seriously or you will only get even more frustrated. Yes, LJ is an asshole but that is what makes him funny (if you consider him funny), its his style.

Of course.. this is clear.

But why a particular group? Am I learning a new skill? Perhaps there's a group of people who are good at it. Acceptance by this group would validate my new-found skills. Perhaps there's a group with a lot of power at my job. Acceptance by this group would mark me as a prime candidate for a promotion. Perhaps there's a group of guys that seem to attract a lot of hot babes. Acceptance by this group would make it easier for me to score.

What does acceptance by The Cellar grant? Why should a newbie care? If you walk into a restaurant and see a table with 10 people, all strangers to you, all having a good time, do you have a desire to sit down, join them, and become part of the group? How is this like, and not like, a new poster approaching The Cellar?

There's nothing I hate worse than reading page after page after page of "oh The Cellar is mean" "No it's not" "This person hates me" "No she doesn't" "Well yeah actually I do". So in some sense I should have never opened this thread. But I'm glad I did, because it meant I got to read Sundae Girl's magisterial reply in #6.

i dont understand. i read a great article cloud posted somewhurr buried in cellar meta.
I have to tell you, you won't get very far here unless you can write better than this. Nobody's going to hand your post back to you marked up in red ink over the occasional typo (well, almost nobody) (well, hardly ever) but if it hurts to read it, most people won't. If you take that as an insult, it's not intended as such--it's just how it is, and not just here. Hell, I've said the same thing in practically the same words to my own daughter.

May I ask why you want to be accepted by the "popular group" (quotes used because I don't believe there is such a thing)? I'm not trying to be a smartass, I'm serious. Why? What do you see that you're interested in "joining"? I'm not saying you shouldn't want to, or that you're not welcome. (I personally love fresh blood.) But I'm curious what the attraction is for you, since it's obviously something that agitates you.

I'm sorry, but you lose. You will not get anything more reasonable than Sundae Girl's reply. Are you really saying, "you're proving Jebo's point, but I won't explain how?" That kind of argument isn't going to get you far. (And I don't mean just here.)

Spare time? Bullshit. "Well, Mrs. McGillicuddy, your credit rating is a little bit on the low side, but let me see what I can do for you. It may take a while." Followed by 5 minutes to get a loan approved and packaged, and 40 minutes of Cellar posting.

Obviously the answer is to put the dick and the asshole together.

I think the Cellar is fairly unique in the way it *operates*.

On other forums, people feel the need to respond to every single post and every comment made. You get a lot of "me too" or "oh that sucks" comments....thats not so here and I wonder if thats why some people feel they dont fit it??

I have never found the cellar to be a tough crowd, and I'm in no way an intellectual contributor....I'm more fluffy (insert batting eyelashes smiley here<<<<can we find one of them please???)

I did check out the lay of the land before I jumped in though... I did land in a bit of a shit fight with the influx of AG'ers...but I made it through

It's an interesting article. The rest of it is here.
