I do not know who Grant is.
Sound's Civil-War-ish though. Having read Confederates in the Attic (courtesy of the lovely Brianna) I would guess a leg, an arm or a horse. Cheaty, cheaty, suggesting three. But I have pretty much zero chances on any one of them. Took me half the book to get around the different names used for each side.

Another answer I once heard is that it is both Grant and his wife, who are buried (or laid to rest, I guess) together.
