I took a screenshot, pasted into paint, selected the desired area, saved that as a new jpeg file, posted it here ... and now the picture no longer fits on my screen, despite being a cut-down screen shot from this very screen.

yep, that's weird.

In my browser, the image info for my experiment reports this image size: 1,460px × 821px

In Paint, the image info reports this image size: 1600 x 900.

It was a straight PrtScn, no cropping, saved as jpg.
