I managed to stop the video at the exact point that the prop passes the guy's head. You can see the blur which is the arc of the prop quite distinctly. It cannot be more than 12" from the announcer's head.

Not often. He was a nationally known, as seen on TV cult expert before he came to work with us.

He occasionally still goes off for a long weekend on a cult job, or to present at a conference.

I talk to him about it a lot because it's something I've been fascinated by since high school after seeing the news reports on Jonestown. I've also been hit up for candy sales by the Moonies, and invited to dinner by the Krishnas (never went, can't stand that vegetarian muck).

Here's a guy from my alma mater who collects information on Scientology, among other things. Great page, especially the bit about the Scientologists protestors who appeared on campus, and the CS grad student counter-protest.
