Yeah.

the four ibuprofen/8 hrs is now being supplemented by oxycodone. will contemplate fluid intake regimen with bourbon supplement. THEN I'll get busy with the circular saw, finish the fucking deck, then drive to the dump.

That's a good fucking plan.

I'll mention the following only because you didn't.

Cold packs/covered ice packs applied to the cheek over the afflicted area can go a long way towards relieving pain where the ibuprofen leaves off and to reducing swelling. Generally 20 min on, 20 min off; but, you can titrate for effect.

BTW, you're not anywhere near the max dose for ibuprofen; however, more than OTC strength puts it in Rx territory and you should consult your physician or dentist to ensure it's safe for you to exceed the OTC dosage in light of your individual medical history.

If you can take acetaminophen, it can be combined with ibuprofen for improved pain relief. It's typically done by alternating dosages every 3 hours. Take your 6 hr. OTC dosage of ibuprofen, 3 hrs. later the 6 hr. OTC dosage of acetaminophen, 3 hrs. later another 6 hr. dose of ibuprofen, 3 hrs. later another 6 hr. dose of acetaminophen ... etc. You should not; however, be taking ETOH with either of these.

Good luck 'till Monday.

ETA: I see you've just posted about the oxycodone. That should make things easier. Still best to nix the ETOH.

Great advice ... will only add, please don't do the oxycodone plus bourbon thing. Best wishes.

Was only half kidding about the ETOH. But, I'll forgo for now. I had heard of the ibuprofen / acetaminophen "cocktail" but didn't know anything about it. The oxycodone / acetaminophen says 5/325 on the label, I'm guessing that's the compound dosage for the one pill. In the past, during kidney stone season, I learned that it takes about 20-30 minutes for the pill to take effect. I took one at 210 pm. I expect it to arrive at my jaw aaaannny minute now.

sexobon, thank you for the coldpack advice. I will put that to use later when I'm back inside. I'm only taking a quick break at the computer here, then back outside.

Thanks everybody really.

You are 100% correct! 5 mg oxycodone, 325 acetaminophen (that part's pretty standard). My arthritis pain meds are 7.5 mg hydrocodone and 325 mg. acetaminophen, one of the most commonly used drugs in my area. In a couple of years, I'll have to switch to a different drug, but not a higher dosage thankfully. My old pain meds had codeine instead of hydrocodone, so once I get resistant to hydrocodone I'll ask to go back to the ones with 4 mg of codeine.

And now for what's pissing me off today.

1. My PSYCHIATRIC disability review was rejected. Evidently, my therapist of at least 5 years now AND my psychiatric prescriber for even longer aren't professional enough to have an opinion about my psychiatric disability! Soc Sec LOST the letter my MD wrote which I mailed in its own sealed envelope as it was given to me, but using THEIR return envelope and annotating THEIR cover letter to indicate it was supplemental information for my review. Now I have to find time to get to my doctor and ask him to write ANOTHER letter, so I made an appointment.

2. Which turns out to be the exact same day and time that I'm supposed to be a couple hundred miles away, on the far end of driving four hours each way to get a (really, really unladylike words) root canal. That's the closest specialist who looked at the X-Rays and decided they could handle the 30-degree dogleg bend in what's supposed to be a straight root. It's congenital and a real annoyance!

3. And my neighbor finally got home from Oregon with his new truck, and he's pissed too. They test-drove that battleship-gray bad boy all over the Willamette Valley and it did fine...but Oregon still has ssssslllllloooooowwwww highways by comparison. At eastern Washington speed limits (70ish on the routes he uses most) the front end started vibrating weirdly. On the frost-heaved 80mph byways native to Montana, he said it was like trying to steer an angry rodeo bronc; he nearly got pasted into the median 3 times when the steering wheel just about wrenched out of his grip. He is understandably SUPER PISSED, especially with only a week to get this figured out before that root canal road trip!

Yeah, it's wise to know which meds (Rx or OTC) play well together. I tell folks they don't want to be the idiot original guitarist from Def Leppard who was dead on his own couch one morning when his girlfriend showed up to check in on him. Codeine and morphine, washed down with a HUGE bender with booze buddies. I refer to it as Suicide By Stupidity. I know the guy had problems (stage fright, panic attacks, and screwed up his back and arms pretty badly over the years) but ffs he was like 32 years old. And had already survived passing out after a concert in Minneapolis, where he registered .39 blood alcohol content in the ER and somehow lived.

Opiates/opioids and alcohol can both act as a respiratory depressant, interfering with the diaphragm until you pass out and slowly stop breathing, and when carousing in groups they like to help each other out. Not a good hobby choice.
