Mince all you like. Google as a verb works quite well as demonstrated by you clear understanding of his usage. Google as a verb has definitely entered the language, even if it is not in a dictionary.

Carry on.

Dear Mr. McFedries:

I am trademark counsel for Google. I have recently become aware of a
definition of "google" on your website, www.wordspy.com. This definition
implies that "google" is a verb synonymous with "search." Please note that
Google is a trademark of Google Technology Inc. Our brand is very
important to us, and as I'm sure you'll understand, we want to make sure
that when people use "Google," they are referring to the services our
company provides and not to Internet searching in general. ...

Google is a verb if and only if you are using Google brand search engine, which most people do when the Google something.

Actually the word could be seen as go ogle. (as a compound).
Not a language expert but that should qualify as a verb of some sort.
A computer geek told me that is the origion of the term, although I can't warrant it's validity. Probably intellibull.......

Some urban legends are very easy to dismiss.

http://www.google.com/intl/en/corporate/history.html

Google History

Google is a play on the word googol, which was coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner, and was popularized in the book, "Mathematics and the Imagination" by Kasner and James Newman. It refers to the number represented by the numeral 1 followed by 100 zeros. Google's use of the term reflects the company's mission to organize the immense, seemingly infinite amount of information available on the web. ...

Hey l123,

Shouldn't this post go in this thread? I think the little animated smilies would look really cute in the banner.
