One of the things you learn playing poker is that it takes two people to really win or lose a shit-ton of money. You don't get paid according to how awesome your hand is. You get paid based on how awesome other people think their hand is. If you end up with, say four tens, you won't win jack if everybody else folds. If, on the other hand, one of the other players has hit a full house, then it's party time.
