Damn gawker blockers. Bring four lanes of traffic to a standstill so you can take a peek at the accident pulled over to the side of the road.

I think for the most part, rubbernecking is a myth.
I think people slow down because those in front of them slow down. And the first people slowed down for a legitimate reason, like they were trying to avoid smashing into someone. |

I think it's at least partially real--in Arizona, they have these things that they deploy whenever there's an accident or stalled car. They're like giant unfoldable walls that are about 15 feet high, and they just stand them up around the entire accident so there's absolutely no way you can see what's going on. Traffic just zips right by.
Edit: I say Arizona, but actually, the only place I saw them was in Phoenix when I was visiting. Could just be a local thing. |

Wait, aren't we supposed to move over and slow down in response to wrecks or emergency vehicles on the shoulder? I'm pretty sure in Texas it is illegal not to slow down 10 miles per hour. After all, what's the sense in some poor guy getting his brains scattered across the highway, right in front of his wife and kids, just because he was trying to change a tire, adjacent to the lane that "more important people" have reserved for oh-so important 80mph cruising in their sweet Mustang while chatting on the cell phone about last night's episode of American Idol.

I have been in 4 car accidents in my whole life. 3 of them were rear enders in Chicago. All were before cell phones and all because the dumb ass was gawking at an accident. I know your pain Pete! In Chicago it is also customary to drive like a bat out of hell until you get to stopped traffic.

Too little time to spend in the shop. And when I do get in there, I usually need to build a tool or something tangential to what I want to be doing.

Yesterday afternoon, I pulled out the trash bag to throw out when the bottom let out and half of the stinky content fell back into the trash can. ARGHHH!!! Some, including the chicken bones, fell out and scattered onto the floor around the area. My sister brought a new bag for me, but she left because the stench would make her gag. I was on my own dumping the nasty trash out and picking the ones to put into the new bag. I have a dull sense of smell so I can handle nasty smell pretty well, but I almost gagged this time. Sigh....I ended up cleaning up the tall trash can, meaning I had to stick my head into the can to clean, clean the kitchen floor, scrub the kitchen slippers, and while I was at it, I cleaned the toilet, bathtub, bathroom sink and floor. Everything is clean now, which is good. But the foul smell put me in a really nasty mood.

Ungrateful bitchy child.
Oh and (former) Swim team having pool rental raised from $3,000 to $44,000 effective immediately without warning. Oh and being asked for my input/advice when they got the ominous "we need to talk about pool rental" and then not being thanked for my input or included on the bad news/results of the "we need to talk" That's just downright rude.

Been waiting for a book for two weeks now.
Okay it was 99p. Okay I chose free shipping. But I'm sure it should have been here by now!! No post on Sunday and yesterday was a Bank Holiday (no post) so I was sure it must arrive today. Nope. It's like waiting for a toy from a ceral packet to arrive... Except I'd generally lost interest in them by the time they turned up, and I will still devour this book. It's just SO LONG COMING!!! If I had more belief in myself as the centre of the universe, I'd think it was taking so long because I spent every day wishing for it. But I'm too old for such nonsense, and know it will get here some time after it was posted, wishing or not. Fingers crossed it's tomorrow!
