And while I'm at the Rundgren lyrics site, and mindful of some of the automotive testosterone that's displayed here once in a while, here's one just for fun:
I am the Emperor of the Highway I wield the Universal Will One might chance to overlook on my Divineness Unless I'm sitting in the Imperial Poupe de Ville I am the Emperor of the Highway Strapped with foolish mortals such as these I need never indicate my intentions I can stop and go and turn just as I please For I am the Emperor of the Highway Hold! Methinks that thou hast driven too far I am the Royal Prince of Foreign Sports Cars Better that I should drive a wheelchair or jog Than to be blown off by a Regal Road Hog I am the Emperor of the Highway (Where did you ever get that gas sucking pig of a car?) This time my friend, you are outclassed (Any real man would drive a stick shift) For my uncle is the Duke of the State Police (Cut me off again and I will punch your lights out) And he will place his Royal Boot upon your Ass (This is my exit, we shall meet another day) Don't forget who's Emperor of the Highway For I am the Emperor of the Highway! Lyrics lose a lot without the performance sometimnes....

And you open your door and step inside,
Were inside our hearts. Imagine your pain as a white ball of healing light, Thats right, your pain. The pain itself, is a white ball of healing light.... I dont think so... This is your life, Good to the last drop. It doesn't get any better than this. This is your life, and its ending one minute at a time. This isnt a seminar, This isnt a weekend retreat. Where you are now, you can't even imagine what the bottom will be like. Only after disaster can we be ressurected. It's only after you have lost everything, that you're free to do anything. Nothing is static. Nothing is evolving. Everything is falling apart. This is your life. Doesnt get any better than this. This is your life. And its ending one minute at a time. You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake, You are the same decaying organic matter as everything else. We are all part of the same compost heap. We are the all singing, all dancing crap of the world. You are not your bank account. You are not the clothes you wear. You are not the contents of your wallet. You are not your bowel cancer. You are not your grande latte. You are not the car you drive. You are not your fucking khakis. You have to give up. You have to give up. You have to realise, that someday you will die. Untill you know that.... You are useless. I say, let me never be complete. I say, may I never be content. I say, deliver me from swedish furniture. I say, deliver me from clever art. I say, deliver me from clear skin, and perfect teeth. I say, you have to give up. I say evolve, and let the chips fall where they may. This is your life. Doesn't get any better than this. This is your life. And it's ending one minute at a time. You have to give up. You have to give up. I want you to hit me as hard as you can. I want you to hit me as hard as you can. If this is your first night at Fight Club..... you have to fight.

Nevermind. to any who saw the song i originally posted, i apologise. it was inappropriate given the recent loss suffered by several on this board.
how bout this one instead? Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel Climbing up on Solsbury Hill I could see the city lights Wind was blowing, time stood still Eagle flew out of the night He was something to observe Came in close; I heard a voice Standing, stretching every nerve I had to listen; had no choice I did not believe the information Just had to trust imagination My heart going boom boom boom Son, he said, grab your things I've come to take you home To keep in silence I resigned My friends would think I was a nut Turning water into wine Open doors would soon be shut So I went from day to day Though my life was in a rut Till I thought of what I'd say And which connection I should cut I was feeling part of the scenery I walked right out of the machinery My heart going boom boom boom Son, he said, grab your things I've come to take you home When illusion spin her net I'm never where I want to be And liberty she pirouette When I think that I am free Watched by empty silhouettes Who close their eyes but still can see No one taught them etiquette So I will show another me Today I don't need a replacement I'll show them what the smile on my face meant My heart going boom boom boom Hey, I said, you can keep my things they've come to take me home i love it when gabriel sings it, and i really enjoy sarah mclachlans rendition ~james Last edited by perth; 06-29-2002 at 12:33 AM. |

Sam Stone
by John Prine Sam Stone came home, To the wife and family After serving in the conflict overseas. And the time that he served, Had shattered all his nerves, And left a little shrapnel in his knees. But the morphine eased the pain, And the grass grew round his brain, And gave him all the confidence he lacked, With a purple heart and a monkey on his back. There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes, Jesus Christ died for nothin I suppose. Little pitchers have big ears, Don't stop to count the years, Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios. Sam Stone's welcome home Didn't last too long. He went to work when he'd spent his last dime And soon he took to stealing When he got that empty feeling For a hundred dollar habit without overtime. And the gold roared through his veins Like a thousand railroad trains, And eased his mind in the hours that he chose, While the kids ran around wearin' other peoples' clothes... There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes, Jesus Christ died for nothin I suppose. Little pitchers have big ears, Don't stop to count the years, Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios. Sam Stone was alone When he popped his last balloon, Climbing walls while sitting in a chair. Well, he played his last request, While the room smelled just like death, With an overdose hovering in the air. But life had lost it's fun, There was nothing to be done, But trade his house that he bought on the GI bill, For a flag-draped casket on a local hero's hill. There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes, Jesus Christ died for nothin I suppose. Little pitchers have big ears, Don't stop to count the years, Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.

<i><B>Queenscryche, "Speak"</b></i>
They've given me a mission I don't really know the game yet I'm bent on submission Religion is to blame I'm the new messiah Death Angel with a gun Dangerous in my silence Deadly to my cause Speak to me the pain you feel Speak the word The word is all of us I've given my life to become what I am To preach the new beginning To make you understand To reach some point of order Utopia in mind, you've got to learn To sacrifice, to leave what's now behind Speak to me the pain you feel Speak the word The word is all of us Speak the word The word is all of us Seven years of power The corporation claw The rich control the government, the media the law To make some kind of difference Then everyone must know Eradicate the fascists, revolution will grow The system we learn says we're equal under law But the streets are reality, the weak and poor will fall Let's tip the power balance and tear down their crown Educate the masses, We'll burn the White House down Speak to me the pain you feel Speak to me the pain you feel Speak the word [Revolution] The word is all of us Speak the word [Revolution] The word is all of us Speak the word The word is all of us Speak the Word The word is all of us Speak |

I like this ditty. Its great with a bossa nova beat. I first heard it played by Texas guy Gary Primich, but its much older by B. Russell and J.B. Brooks. I think it may have been from an old movie. Any buffs out there know?
"You came a long way from Saint Louis. You climbed the ladder of success. I've seen the town and country cars that were parked out in front of your fancy address." "You came a long way from Saint Louis And broke a lot of hearts between. I've seen a lot of gloomy guys that were doin' alright til you came on the scene." "You came here from the middle west, certainly impressed the population here abouts. But I've got news for you, I'm from Missouri too, and naturally I've got my doubts." "You've got 'em droppin' by the wayside, a feelin' I don't wanna know. You came a long way from Missouri but baby you still got a long way to go." |

A couple of songs
One of my favorite songs ever:
"Screenwriter's Blues" Ruby Vroom Soul Coughing Exits to freeways twisted like knots on the fingers jewels cleaving skin between breasts. Your Cadillac breathes four hundred horses over blue lines you are going to Reseda to make love to a model from Ohio whose real name you don't know you spin like the cadillac was overturning down a cliff on television and the radio is on and the radioman is speaking and the radioman says women were a curse so men built Paramount studios and men built Columbia studios and men built Los Angeles it is 5 am and you are listening to Los Angeles And the radioman says it is a beautiful night out there! And the radioman says Rock and Roll lives! And the radioman says it is a beautiful night out there in Los Angeles you live in Los Angeles and you are going to Reseda; we are all in some way or another going to Reseda someday to die and the radioman laughs because the radioman fucks a model too Gone savage for teenagers with automatic weapons and boundless love gone savage for teenagers who are aesthetically pleasing in other words fly Los Angeles beckons the teenagers to come to her on buses; Los Angeles loves love it is 5 am and you are listening to Los Angeles I am going to Los Angeles to built a screenplay about lovers who murder each other I am going to Los Angeles to see my own name on a screen, five feet long and luminous as the radioman says it is 5 am and the sun has charred the other side of the world and come back to us and painted the smoke over our heads an imperial violet it is 5 am and you are listening to Los Angeles. You are listening. You are listening. You are listening. You are listening.

Smile
Smile though your heart is aching;
Smile even though it's breaking. When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by. If you smile through your fear and sorrow, Smile and maybe tomorrow, You'll see the sun come shining through for you. Light up your face with gladness, Hide every trace of sadness. Although a tear may be ever so near, That's the time you must keep on trying, Smile, what's the use of crying? You'll find that life is still worthwhile, If you just smile. Instrumental Interlude That's the time you must keep on trying, Smile, what's the use of crying? You'll find that life is still worthwhile If you just smile _______________________________ First recorded by Nat King Cole in 1955 Later recorded by Natalie Cole in the 1991 album, Unforgettable With Love Also recorded by Michael Jackson on History Also recorded by Robert Downey Jr. for the 1992 film Chaplin Lyrics by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons Music written by Charlie Chaplin for his 1936 silent movie classic, Modern Times Last edited by Nic Name; 09-06-2002 at 08:14 AM. |

The Police, Synchronicity II
Another suburban family morning Grandmother's screaming at the walls We have to shout above the din of our Rice Krispies We can't hear anything at all Mother chants her litany of boredom and frustration But we know all her suicides are fake Daddy only stares into the distance There's only so much more that he can take Many miles away, something crawls from the slime At the bottom of a dark Scottish lake Another industrial ugly morning The factory belches filth into the skies He walks unhindered through the picket lines today He doesn't think to wonder why The secretaries pout and preen like cheap tarts on a red light street But all he ever thinks to do is watch. And every single meeting with his so-called "superior" Is a humiliating kick in the crotch Many miles away, something crawls to the surface Of a dark Scottish loch Another working day has ended Only the rush-hour hell to face Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes Contestants in a suicidal race Daddy grips the wheel and stares alone into the distance He knows that something, somewhere, has to break He sees the family home now, looming in his headlights The pain upstairs that makes his eyeballs ache Many miles away, there's a shadow on the door On a cottage on the shore of a dark Scottish lake ---- Kinda cool for a song about a guy that comes home and kills his family, I thought. |

Stevie Wonder--"As"
As around the sun the earth knows she's revolving
And the rosebuds know to bloom in early May Just as hate knows love's the cure You can rest your mind assure That I'll be loving you always As now can't reveal the mistery of tomorrow But in passing will grow older every day Just as all is born is new Do you know what I say is true That I'll be loving you always Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky ALWAYS Until the ocean covers every mountain high ALWAYS Until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea ALWAYS Until we dream of life and life becomes a dream Did you know that true love asks for nothing Her acceptance is the way we pay Did you know that life has given love a guarantee To last through forever and another day Just as time knew to move on since the beginning And the seasons know exactly when to change Just as kindness knows no shame Know through all your joy and pain That I'll be loving you always As today I know I'm living but tomorrow Could make me the past but that I mustn't fear For I'll know deep in my mind The love of me I've left behind Cause I'll be loving you always Until the day is night and night becomes the day ALWAYS Until the trees and sea just up and fly away ALWAYS Until the day that 8x8x8 is 4 ALWAYS Until the day that is the day that are no more Did you know you're loved by somebody? Until the day the earth starts turning right to left ALWAYS Until the earth just for the sun denies itself I'll loving you forever Until dear Mother Nature says her work is through ALWAYS Until the day that you are me and I am you AL~~~~~WA~~~~~~~~~AA~~~~~~~~~AA~~~ Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky ~~~~~~~~~~AA~~~~~~~~~AA~~~~~~~~~AA~~~ Until the ocean covers every mountain high ~~~AA~~~~~~~~~AA~~~~~~~~~YS We all know sometimes life's hates and troubles Can make you wish you were born in another time and space But you can bet your life times that and twice its double That God knew exactly where he wanted you to be placed So make sure when you say you're in it but not of it You're not helping to make this earth a place sometimes called Hell Change your words into truths and then change that truth into love And maybe our children's grandchildren And their great-great grandchildren will tell |

Somebody
I want somebody to share
Share the rest of my life Share my innermost thoughts Know my intimate details Someone who'll stand by my side And give me support And in return She'll get my support She will listen to me When I want to speak About the world we live in And life in general Though my views may be wrong They may even be perverted She'll hear me out And won't easily be converted To my way of thinking In fact she'll often disagree But at the end of it all She will understand me Aaaahhhhh.... I want somebody who cares For me passionately With every thought and With every breath Someone who'll help me see things In a different light All the things I detest I will almost like I don't want to be tied To anyone's strings I'm carefully trying to steer clear of Those things But when I'm asleep I want somebody Who will put their arms around me And kiss me tenderly Though things like this Make me sick In a case like this I'll get away with it Aaaahhhhh.... written by M L Gore, from the Depeche Mode album Some Great Reward |

Only When I Lose Myself
Lead singer: David Gahan Songwriter: Martin L. Gore Publishing credit: ©1998 Grabbing Hands Music Overseas/EMI Music Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved. Lyrics electronically reprinted with permission. It's only when I lose myself in someone else That I find myself I find myself Something beautiful is happening inside for me Something sensual, it's full of fire and mystery I feel hypnotised I feel paralysed I have found heaven There's a thousand reasons Why I shouldn't spend my time with you For every reason not to be here I can think of two To keep me hanging on Feeling nothing's wrong Inside your heaven It's only when I lose myself in someone else That I find myself I find myself I can feel the emptiness inside me Fade and disappear There's a feeling of contentment Now that you are here I feel satisfied I belong inside Your velvet heaven Did I need to sell my soul for pleasure like this Did I have to lose control to treasure your kiss Did I need to place my heart in the palm of your hand Before I could even start to understand It's only when I lose myself in someone else That I find myself I find myself *sigh*....oh sorry. DM night in the Sycamore kingdom! *watching the Singles DVD*

Woody Guthrie for my political side:
"This Land is your Land" This land is your land, this land is my land From California to the New York Island From the redwood forest to the Gulf Stream water This land was made for you and me As I was walkin', that ribbon of highway I saw above me, that endless skyway I saw below me, that golden valley I said this land was made for you and me I've roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps To the sparkling sand of her diamond desert And all around me, a voice was sounding: This land was made for you and me Down in the city, in the shadow of the steeple By the relief office, I saw my people As they stood there hungry I stood there whistling: This land was made for you and me As I went walking, I saw a sign there And on that sign it said "Private Property" But on the other side it didn't say nothin' That side was made for you and me ! Nobody living can ever stop me As I go walking my freedom highway Nobody living can make me turn back, cuz This land was made for you and me The sun came shining, and I was strolling And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling As the fog was lifting, a voice was chanting: This land was made for you and me and Bright Eyes for my listened to the Cure too much growing up side: "When the Curious Girl Realizes She is Under Glass" Tomorrow when I wake up I’m finding my brother And I'm making him take me back down to the water That lake where we sailed, and we laughed with our father I will not desert him I will not desert him No matter how I may wish for a coffin so clean Or these trees to undress all their leaves onto me I put my face in the dirt and then finally I'll see The sky that has been avoiding me. Well I started this letter I’m going to send it to Aruba It'll be blessed by her eyes on the Gulf Coast of Florida With her feet in the sand, And one hand on her swimsuit, She'll recite the prayer of my pen Saying, "Time take us forward. Relief from this longing. They can land that plane on my heart; I don’t care. Just give me November, The warmth of a whisper, In the freezing darkness of my room." But no matter what I would do in an attempt to replace All these pills that I take, trying to balance my brain See the curious girl with that look on her face So surprised she stares out from her display case
