I hope you don't think I was referring to you! I was just using it in a sentence, as Shawnee asked. You are entirely lovely.

Thanks chick! Sorry - I'm not communicating very well in this thread. I was responding to the fact that you gave the answer to the question (which I didn't know) and that as predicted it was a term used by a man about a woman. Hence me being able to have my intended tea, rather than a helping of the old humble pie (which I keep in the freezer for emergencies).

You're all lovely people.
I am sometimes amazed at the differences between the younger set and my generation...when did I get to be 40-something? I still think I"m only 25! That was my only point. Sorry for the confusion!

It took me about 3 minutes laughing at this bizarre random fact before I realised that you thought "chick" was intended as a female-only reference.
It's just this thread I think, it's interfering with my brain patterns or something. I used to use the word chicken as a fond form of address (before that it was honey or hon). It's not gender specific. That morphed into chickpea, and has now been abbreviated to chick. Thinking about it, I realise a chick is also a term for a woman (less so in England I think). I will have to find another word!

Over here, the word chick definitely connotes female. That was why it tickled me so; spexx is like AHEM!
You guys (and chicks) are the best.

In England the word 'Chick' is multi functional. It's used as a way of describing a girl or woman, it's used as a term of endearment by adults with children and it's used as a general word of friendly address by some people, in some regions to both sexes.
using 'chick' for girl, is less common than using 'bird'. |
