That is a lot different. A coach is a figure of authority and wisdom, which is more important symbolically than just an athlete. Whether we like it or not, we are still in a civil rights transition and we still have institutional racism everywhere. Like I said before, this is a lot bigger event for the black community than it is for the white community.

Maybe, but it wouldn't be a "first".

I think part of the reason this became news, is there are a million sports writers and news reporters trying to dig up some angle on the Super Bowl. With all the hype every year, it's pretty hard to say anything that hasn't been said three times before.

But that won't stop those same things from STILL being said over and over and over and over and over...

Ya know, I was thinking bout this while driving in today, and for me this is a total non story. I wondered why manyt others are making such an issue of it and not me. Then I realized that its because their race as never an issue to me at all. I guess what I'm saying is I never took into account their race cuz it doesn't matter to me. I think "Good coach" and others think "Black head coach" - thats totally lame. You outta be ashamed. My god its 2007 not 1957.

You = you (who think this way) in general; not you specific

It obviously isn't an issue to you yesman because it doesn't affect you. I don't see "Black head coach" either but I realize that blacks do look up to Lovie and Dungy and it is good for the black community for them to get some credit. We do still have a lot of racism in the United States and I'm not just talking about the South.

I did not state that it was my only criteria, not all Democrats are against gun ownership.
Being from the Deep South, most of ours are against gun control.

No, PH that is not right, its not an issue to me because I don't see them as black, because I see them as men. Those who see their color are the ones who have issues. Yes, there is plenty of racism in the world, but by making a big deal out of the fact that they are black only perpetuates the problem.

Of course you don't see him as black but other blacks will see him as black. That is why it is important for them. I don't like this either but we need to take this step before we get to equality.

I understand where you are coming from, but I am past that. I just wish more people were. It's sad that 2 football coaches have to be some type of examples of this though.

What I see around this area, more than real dyed in the wool racism, is when the Eagles win, Donovan McNabb is a great quarterback, but when they lose, McNabb is a dumb nigger. I don't think it's real, hate racism, as much as reaching for something hateful to say that would be sure to offend McNabb if he heard it. Of course he won't and they know it.

Now I can't possibly know what these guys are thinking, but I do know they don't seem to be racist the rest of the time, in word or deed. They get along with black people they work with, play with and live next to, so I think they are just letting off steam when they say that. They do the same for Spics, Krauts, Pollacks, Chinks, Dagos and everybody else.

Philly sport fans reserve the right to hate regardless of race creed or national origin.

You got that right Griff - they're "equal opportunity" haters. They hate everyone.

Not true. They looooves the underdogs. Jim Eisenreich was a favorite because he played better and did things that nobody really expected him to do. Fans didn't like Mike Schmidt because he didn't live up to fan expectations (which was perfection. After all he was Mike Scmidt).

In other words, if you are expected to play at a level 4, and play like an 7, Philadelphia fans love you. If you are expected to play at a level 9, and play like a 7, they think you suck. Yeah, two guys playing at the same level...
