Proximity is neat- it's an adaptation of Othello.

warning--nostalgia alert

Are any of you Amiga-philes? I have one, A1000, with the most ahead of its time psychedelic music/video morpho-matic: MindLight7. Am I the only one who lost hours of my life watching the sychronized moving music on the screen?

/crickets chirping/

Ahh, o-k. I even piped it out the composite video out into the vhs vcr and captured it. Trippy, man.

Age of Empires 3 soon.
CounterStrike from beta 3 to 1.0, Day of Defeat for a while, Transport Tycoon, OpenTTD for OSX almost caused me to fail a subject...in fact I might just go see if I can finish that coal interchange yard now....

I like Day of Defeat and still play it. I still won't play as a German, even though they have the better equipment, (stick grenades and MG42). Of course the solution is to drop your weapon (press G) and pick up the one your opponent will no longer be needing.

This was absolutely essential if you were stuck playing a British soldier (Bren machine guns, bolt-action Enfield rifles, and Sten 'grease gun' submachine guns that were the military equivalent of the 'zip guns' used by street gangs).

Counterstrike was interesting, but the game is very skirmish oriented, with a time limit on many missions. In untimed missions, Day of Defeat can take over a half hour until one side wins.

I'm returning to Civ 3 for a while and also playing Madden XBox and UT2004 while waiting for Ghost Recon 2 for PC.

I liked the way DoD often had a 'front' that moved back and forth, it encouraged much more team playing, truly playing as a team in CS required a clan and even then it was fairly rare to really pull it off. MG42 is nice but you're sniper bait as soon as you set down.

That's what I loved about the game. They balanced the weapons by assigning tradeoffs. In order to use a heavy MG effectively, you had to lie down and deploy the bipod. In order to move you had to retract the bipod and stand up again, even if an enemy was standing over you with a sharpened shovel or if a grenade was rolling towards you.

Ghost Recon was the shiznit. Right now I'm on an Everquest kick. Even bought a decent graphics card for it. I was heavily in to Wolfenstein ET for awhile but I just can't play the fast action games online until I move somewhere that has broadband.

I'm not EVEN going to look at insaniquarium or any other web game. That's all I need, is another distraction. I feel guilty enough for the number of times I come to the cellar at work.

Hey OC, what's your name on Lavastorm?

GR is the real thing to me because if you get shot in the head you die, if you get shot in the leg you limp around. You don't lose "75% health" after getting socked in the chest by a rocket.

Plus most of it is strategery. You don't run around shooting the first thing that moves, you plan an attack with hiding spots and cover fire and stuff. In UT a lot of the time your best option is to run in and fire because it doesn't matter so much if you die.

And GR did a good - at least better - job of making fireteams necessary for mission success. If one part didn't do their job, completing the mission is next to impossible.

Now if they would only get smart AI. You'd think that gunfire and grenades would have every tango in the map on edge, behind cover, and ready to shoot anything that moves. Not so. All you need is a couple of walls between you and they're completely oblivious.

Big Kahuna Reef. (which is basically bejeweled/jewelquest/candyswapper)

It is entrancing.

It has fish.

You get new fish for your reef after you finish every so-many levels.

Oh, and the net is possibly the best game accessory I've ever earned. (Okay, it is NOT better than the Chainsaw in Doom)

Bastards.
