Pretty much you get the degree or you don't. Many (most?) colleges award "cum laude," "magna cum laude," and "summa cum laude" to the top finshers. (At my university you got those for earning a final GPA of 3.0-3.499, 3.5-3.899, or 3.9-40 respectively.) There's no US equivalent for a 3rd class degree AFAIK... the student who barely escaped expulsion and the one with a 2.99 who barely missed the "cum laude" mark would both get the same diploma.
We had 2 grades in grad school. 94 - 100 = A; 80 -93.999 = B; >80 = F.

Do I get to guess which grade you got in math?

Posting something positive to offset my post in the "irritating me" thread:

Yippee, one of my profs has agreed to write me a letter of recommendation so I can apply for some scholarships. I asked 3 of them so I'll probably get more than one, but I'm getting a late start since they're due 3/1 and the others might not have time. But this prof luuuuurves me.

ETA: no, not that way.

Ususally this is done when a prof writes tests so bloody hard that if he used the traditional scale, all his or her students would fail every exam, and the board would start looking into why he/she was such a shitty teacher. There are many other ways to calculate a curve too, most way too complicated for me to even comprehend.
I'm glad to see someone agrees with my opinion of the "curve." Everyone I talk to seems to love curves. I guess that's also the mark of a lazy student.

Catching up with a couple more old posts:

WTG Dana!!!!! What a relief, you must be proud.

I got a paper back too, though it was probably much less work than yours. 98%.

One more thing...this TIA you speak of...besides being a stroke, it's also "aunt" in Spanish and the name of the little girl in Escape to Witch Mountain. Oh, and one of the Mowry twins on "Sister, Sister" and "Twitches."

Got a VD card from mom and dad. Well, dad probably had very little to do with it. My 'rent's are awesome.

And, I'm going to take a nap. Just 'cause I can.

My ex-Father-in-Law had a major stroke and will probably be in a nursing home the rest of his life.

I hear you, UT. Some people you cannot care about, cannot feel sad for. Some people leave the world a better place when they stop interacting with it.
