Dido's first album reminded me what love songs are.

Sky, I loved Sixpence None the Richer, but it was a bit fey.
Fits I suppose

UT - I really felt Dido's songs, but I could never fit them to me.
Male: female difference I suppose.

I submit two:

When You Come - Crowded House.
I just love the imagery. It is a love song. Just not a soppy one.
YouTube'd because it was an album track. Forgive them, it was filmed in the 80s.

Quote:
When you come across the sea
Me like a beacon, guiding you to safety
The sooner the better now
And when you come
The hills will breathe like a baby
Pulled up, heaving from the bottom of the ocean
The sooner the better now
And when you come to cover me
With your kisses
Fresh like a daisy chained up in a lion's den
I'll know you by the thunderclap
Pouring like a rain of blood to my emotions
And that is why
I stumble to my knees

And why, underneath the Heavens
With the stars burning and exploding
I know why I could never let you down
When you come

When you come like an iceberg float in darkness
Smashing my hull send me to the bottom of the sea
I should know you better now
And when you come, your majesty to entrap me
Prince of light receding
The sooner the better now
And when you come to cover me
With your kisses hard like armour
The sooner the better now
I'll know you by the thunderclap
Pouring like a rain of blood to my emotions, hey
And that is why
I stumble to my knees

And why underneath the Heavens
With the stars burning and exploding
I know why I could never let you down

She came out of the water
Into my horizon
Like a cumulo nimbus
Coming in from the distance
Burning and exploding
Burning and exploding
Like a slow volcano
When you come
Cover the ground with ashes, with ashes
Baby, when you come
Nothing changes, now
When you come
Burning and exploding
When you come
When you come
Wonderdrug - Jann Arden.
The clip starts with someone other than her singing. The real song kicks in about 30 seconds.

Quote:
Be my lover, be my baby, be my wonderdrug
Be my flower, weeping silver tears on a rusted heart
Don't say a word, just let me kiss it all away
No more sorrow, no more sadness no more

Be my lover, baby you just got to want me
I don't know, can't think, not even breathing
Be my blood stained suit of armour, be my everything
Don't say you love me 'cause I don't care
I love you more than you will ever know

No more worry, no more trouble, no more sadness
And no more sorrow
Oh my heart shines when you kiss my mouth
What a sweet surprise
And I stop cold when you're in the room
And you look my way
Say my name, say my name

Be my lover. Be my, be my baby
Be my wonderdrug my wonderdrug
my wonderdrug
Be my, be my baby
Be my lover
Be my wonderdrug
Both sets of lyrics quoted because it's a lot about the lyrics to me.

Most love songs seem to be about longing for what you can't have.

For example, something like Nothing Compares 2U is a heart wrenching song about unrequited love. If that were written about me, I'd be freaked out that some psycho was going to kill herself over me. I don't want that. Where are the passionate love songs about happy couples who are together? It's boring subject matter, so I can't think of any examples.

Wonderful Tonight is a good song, except the sentiment was kind of ruined for me when I read that he wrote it when he was waiting forever for his partner to get ready one evening before going out.

I got nothing.

Tch! Half of my favourites I can't ask to have been written about me because they're about established relationships!

The other half are about the passionate throngs of new love. I don't want that.
Anyone can fall head over heels and promise eternal love. I don't trust that any more.

So I scrounged out two that are just about love imo.
It's small beer.
Love songs are for the young and happy I figure, or the settled.
