This one is an old one, and I'm sure I and others have posted it before, but it's always worth a repost. The interwebz! They progress so fastly!
I know Golden Retrievers and they are especially smart and in tune to humans, and I will anthropomorphize and say that dog is smiling the whole freaking time! So, for posterity, once again, in case it gets knee deep in the hoopla, over time... |

I hadn't seen that before.
It's a nice relief from the wars over vaccinations and debt ceilings. |

In memory of John Fortune, who died this week. With his passing we lose not just his satirical mind, but the amazing double act of John Bird and John Fortune. And, too, with Rory Bremner, the brilliant Bremner, Bird and Fortune, a weekly satirical show that shone a light onto the darker side of politics from the late 90s til 2010, and which many people had hoped would make a return one day.
The Long Johns, were a series of parody interviews, in which one of the Johns (Bird or Fortune) would take on the role of the interviewee, who was always called George Parr - though George Parr was a different person each time. Sometimes a military general, other times a politician, or a banking executive - and on one occasion an African Dictator. The other John would interview as himself. Mostly Fortune would be the interviewer and Bird would would play George Parr. But they did swap roles sometimes. From time to time they'd play with the format and have the two men as friends talking in a pub. Here's a Long Johns skit from the run up to the Iraq War - exploring the utter unpreparedness of the British Army for a desert conflict. On changes to the criminal justice system: And probably their best known skit, originally part of the 'Silly Money' special edition of Bremner, Bird and Fortune, and performed here on The South Bank Show: The Long Johns explore the Sub-Prime Crisis

Thanks for those.
I do regret his passing. In much sillier news, this was only brought to my attention the other night. Dog attacks are not funny. Ever. So I'll have to slam my hand in a drawer at some point for laughing at this. Because I did, heartily. Pacifist in scuffle, own dog is bitey. On the wrong side. He bites him on the arse, hehehe!

Admittedly this isn't a 'thigh slapper' but the end few seconds should bring a smile to even the most world weary countenance.
ETA Anyone know what the main instrument in the accompanying music is? Northumbrian Pipes, perhaps? |

Ooooooooh. I love collies.
[eta] that was brilliant lol. I've sent a link to Ma. Her Nelle is an unknown cross, but we reckon border collie and white German Shepherd. She totally does the collie herding walk. Bearded collies do something a little different but closely related. They don't slink down to the ground quite like that. They're used sometimes for sheep, but they were originally cattle droving dogs. Much more barking with a beardie :P The way they communicated with each other there was fucking amazing.

They're great dogs, aren't they? A friend who works on a local farm has her third Collie and it's such an enthusiastic and intelligent dog.
It will spot sheep half a mile away and take no notice of whatever other treats or diversions may be closer. |
