This thread is a real slice-of-life. I like it. It's nice to see the little details of people's lives, to know those things held in common, uniting the thick middle layer of communities around the world.

We so look forward to the big events, but it's really the accretion of the ordinary that form the foundation of our lives and makes those big events possible.

This weekend I'll be preparing a presentation on renewable energy, which I'm scheduled to give next weekend at the Gilpin Gold annual festival. I really meant to have this done weeks ago, but I've spent all my free time here.

He's playing the owl if I recall correctly?

How'd the first show go down Urbane?

Well, didn't I just give a loooong pause! That's what I get for not reading this thread all the time!

Our first night went as opening nights often do -- plenty of cast butterflies, nobody talking much about it, but ventral butterflies often translate into a good show because of the emotional energy. Attendance at the second performance was -- only one word for it: bad. We think it was a statistical blip, though perhaps Oxnard isn't famous for live theater so much as some of the artier towns around Ventura County. East county, Simi, Thousand Oaks -- are more known for theatah.

This weekend, the middle of the run, the cast was more relaxed and there was a more playful feel about the shows, I thought. It's a comedy, and we're starting to get slightly mischievous with some of our lines. This is mildly flustering the director, who like many many directors, is necessarily a control freak. This one's very hands-on, all the time. She's also an acting teacher and damned good at it, on the evidence: half the cast is elementary-school age and the bulk of these is third grade and under. In one case, well under. But she mostly doesn't have any lines, just looks cute, made up as a diminutive skunk, one of Rabbit's Friends-and-Relations. But the director is very good at getting the kids to stay focused without losing her temper -- though keeping the shrimps focused all through the show is another matter altogether.

So the older cast members divide their time between being "uncle" if not daddy or mommy (both cases are true) and "setting a good example." We find it advisable to beware of tails. Kanga and Roo costumes have huge ones.

We get autograph sessions after each show, and of course I'm signing myself "W O L."

My brother's birthday was yesterday...we're going out tonight to celebrate it. It's at a bar I don't care for, but as long as they have beer...

The apple pressing party was at our house yesterday....I am so........Tired!!!
The natives got restless when we broke the apple press down....so silly.... Someone said "Is this your apple press?"
I said no....I just live here.
The poor things found apple-pressing to be so addictive they didn't want to stop!!!

I replaced a smashed power outlet.

I was awakened Friday night when a heavy picture frame fell off the wall right by my head and landed on a plug in the wall, knocking it out. The following morning, I sleepily tried to plug it back in, and was rewarded by a nasty spark, indicating that the bottom of the socket was gone. I'm glad it hadn't caught fire that night.

Replacing it went well, though I had to figure out the little tab to remove so the light switch worked on one of the sockets.

I had no plans, but on a whim have come to see my parents.
Okay, not quite a whim - had a falling out with HM last night and wanted to get away for a while. Especially as I fell spectacularly off the wagon and ended up in the pub round the corner showing my boobies to the landlord in exchange for a drink. And was walked home by a lovely young man who was worried about me walking home alone. Oh dear.

Anyway, Mum & Dad don't know this & just think I missed them. Which I did. I haven't been here since last September, so it is lovely to be home. Am currently working my way through Mum's stock of Caffeine Free Diet Coke. Oh I've missed cold fizzy drinks!
