I was there setting up my new computer, and he got in some kind of spat with a sales manager that has a second interview at another dealer tomorrow. This manager is the one of the four we have that I would consider a normal person. His imminent departure was weighing on me. My job will be harder if he does leave.
Well, he 'quit' over the altercation. My hope is that with Duke gone, he will decide to stay.

Duke is sales
That was hard to follow. So the sales manager might have been leaving because of Duke? |

Duke is a salesman. He was a constant itch. Way past tolerable, but he performed. The balance finally tipped, i guess.

Duke made everyone else's life harder. Two of the other three sales managers also wear on him.... I just hope he won't want to miss life there post Duke.

These things always sort out funny. We had a series of dominoes fall recently, who knows the end result?

so there is a point where a sales person can really bring in dollars but get canned anyway for being just intolerable?

When I worked at Wal-Mart it was hard to get fired. Laying out was the #1 terminator. I would scan the job listings and would suggest they bid for it. Then I would be rid of them.
Funny thing is they would often brag about how good a job they did on the floor crew and oftentimes they couldn't figure out how to put a wringer on a bucket. |

It's impossible to get fired here in AA right now, unless you're caught stealing. At least in the "unskilled" sector. But I think everywhere. So few workers, so many jobs. Starting pay even for maintenance and bag packers in my store is $12ish and no-one bites. With benefits. We are employing brain-injury, alcohol rehab, and non-English speaking people almost exclusively. Which is great except that..... we sell alcohol. By the pint to sip as you shop. None of the drug rehab people can sell it, most of the brain injury and non-English speakers can't manage to do the training needed to sell it..... etc etc etc
Certainly in my store, anyone with a vague hint of competence is promoted to a manger within weeks. They don't have the skills. Where are the people with the skills? .... I think the "next tier" are also suffering and those people are working those jobs..... I suspect but have no evidence that it's trickle-down from when Pfizer -formerly the second biggest employer in AA after the University of Michigan- bugged out. Our population decreased dramatically -especially families with young children -those children would be the people filling the unskilled jobs as they graduated high school without plans, and the stay-at-home spouses would be filling the more skilled jobs as they were no longer needed at home.....
