In Great Britain, televisions are a lot older than ours. We've only been a country for what, 235 years? Our old televisions are nothing in comparison to Great Britain's old televisions!

I'm not 100% sure but I think that early TVs had an upward facing CRT showing the picture in reverse and a mirror in the open lid displaying everything the right way round.
It might have been a somewhat more sophisticated method, ie using optics of one sort or another, but you get the drift. Early CRTs were very long devices and would have been difficult to accommodate horizontally.

...and it would have only worked on the original 405 line standard in VHF Band 1 both of which were abandoned decades ago.
Apart from that, it's perfect in every respect. ![]()
