As far as blasphemy, or making fun of some one's religion, or lack of religion, that's just such a foreign concept to me I can't imagine what would prompt some one to do that. To say it's personal, would be the understatement of the year. It's their belief, the core of who they are.

My politics are at the core of who I am. The basic tenets of socialism are things I believe passionately in. It is more than a set of logical assumptions (though I think it is that too), it's a deeply held emotional conviction. Class politics frames who I am. It is a core part of my self-identity.
I don't vanish from a community because some of its members insult, demean or mock those beliefs and values.
I hate when people just vanish from a board. People who've made themselves a part of the community, I mean, not people who've posted three times and then not come back. I understand it happens, and I have done so accidentally myself (when my computer died, or i lost my internet for a while). Sometimes people just drift off and don't come back. But when someone actually purposefully leaves, intending not to return, I think the polite thing to do is let people know.
Not that it matters at the end o fthe day :P Whiskies come and whiskies go.
