Feb 12, 2009: Hotfoot's Bird
BusterB pointed out this colorful stainless steel bird.
It was created by a guy who calls himself Hotfoot on the Weld Talk forums, at the Hobart Welding Products website. First he build the bird from a piece of exhaust tubing, a ball joint and a whole lot of stainless flatwear. Pretty clever. ![]() ![]() Then the bird is brushed with Linseed Oil and Japan dryer. Heating the bird with a propane brush burner causes the oil to change color from yellow to gold to copper to brown to black. You can stop at any color and it will dry to a weather resistant finish. ![]() The red on the bird is a reflection from the guy's truck. I wonder if this bird will show up on the Antiques Roadshow, in 50 years, as folkart?
