I would insist on a proper spare wheel.
The repair kits can only deal with minor punctures, and are unreliable. Space savers tyres are better but you have to drive delicately on them. And what are you going to do with the flat while you're driving for repairs? It doesn't fit in the space-saver bay. Maybe if you are just running around in cities a space saver would be okay. If you're ever going out of mobile phone range, get a real spare.
