As with most other people, anything I could suggest, you've already got covered.
I volunteered when I was out of work, as a way of filling up the days. I only had one bad experience, and that was due to where I was in my head rather than the actual experience. Note - if you have to sneak into the toilet to neck tramp juice during a break, you have problems. My other experiences were very worthwhile and helped me grow as a person, cliched as it is.

Of course I'm biased because my volunteering lead to a job I prize more than anything else I've ever done.

So the only thing I can add to the list is "work with children". I'd have spat at that suggestion 2 years ago, but they have a wonderful way of deflating the ego, while still being so egotistical that they help you forget your woes. Overweight, lonely, unhappy at home? "Mrs O-, I have a wobbly tooth! Look!"

And temp work is an excellent motivator. When you go in and they think you are amazing because you can file and photocopy and even write coherent letters (amend for your profession of choice) you realise there are a lot of jobs out there that you do not want to get stuck in. I was offered employment nearly everywhere I temped. I took two of them up on it - one out of interest which worked wonderfully - and one out of desperation - where I crashed and burned.

Selfishly, I say travel
Come over here!
I'll show you the sights (not a cougar come-on).
It's only a 13 hour coach trip to Amsterdam from London!

I've wanted a Dwellar to come here since 2005.
