Well, that's what I mean by "ready", I guess. Not as in "ready and willing", but as in "aware of the possibility and fickleness of life". I think about it a lot - probably more than I should. But I do my best to keep moving forward in time. And I try to make even my amusements meaningful to me in some way. That's about all I think anyone can do in life to achieve anything approaching happiness.

I volunteered when I was out of work, as a way of filling up the days. I only had one bad experience, and that was due to where I was in my head rather than the actual experience. Note - if you have to sneak into the toilet to neck tramp juice during a break, you have problems. My other experiences were very worthwhile and helped me grow as a person, cliched as it is. Of course I'm biased because my volunteering lead to a job I prize more than anything else I've ever done. So the only thing I can add to the list is "work with children". I'd have spat at that suggestion 2 years ago, but they have a wonderful way of deflating the ego, while still being so egotistical that they help you forget your woes. Overweight, lonely, unhappy at home? "Mrs O-, I have a wobbly tooth! Look!" And temp work is an excellent motivator. When you go in and they think you are amazing because you can file and photocopy and even write coherent letters (amend for your profession of choice) you realise there are a lot of jobs out there that you do not want to get stuck in. I was offered employment nearly everywhere I temped. I took two of them up on it - one out of interest which worked wonderfully - and one out of desperation - where I crashed and burned. Selfishly, I say travel ![]() Come over here! I'll show you the sights (not a cougar come-on). It's only a 13 hour coach trip to Amsterdam from London! I've wanted a Dwellar to come here since 2005.

Wow, not bad. I do stuff at the animal shelter, mostly pet cats. I miss my old volunteer position back east with county emergency management, and always wished that would've lead to an actual job. I wouldn't mind working at the shelter, either, but that's a lot more.. biological in nature, and stinkier generally.
Hmm, children. I was giving a little bit of thought to applying to Big Brothers/Big Sisters as a brother to a kid, but only a little. My best friend growing up had one and he was a really nice guy, and it would be nice to make a difference like that. Maybe in a few years I'll revisit the idea, but now might not be the time. I like it in concept, though. Before I went back to school I got my last full-time position via temp work, and ended up there for a number of years. One thing I don't want, though, is what happened there to happen again - namely, a work environment so hostile as to create more of the PTSD type of reoccuring nightmares I started having and still have to this day (and I left there in 2006!) Getting out of jobs like that is why I went back to school in the first place! I do want to travel, but the money has to come first. And when I do, I'll be all over the UK, so a stop by is definitely not out of the question. About how much does that coach trip across cost? I'd want to make it over there to visit a friend in Eindhoven while I was at it, so actually Amsterdam would be a cool stop, and via London would be actually fantastic as I could work my way around starting in Dublin or something. Not taken as a come-on ![]() Quote:

Bizarre I know, but have you considered sitting still for a few minutes? :p
Dear God, you people are so active you are making me tired just thinking about it. What time is it? Hmmm almost 10am....way early for a nap...

You know, for all it *sounds* like I do, I still sit around so damn much - and now that I'm out of school (for a couple of weeks at least), I'm liable to be sitting around even more. I often spend *hours* a day in the park, just snoozing in the car and listening to NPR, or reading, playing nintendo DS, whatever. Sometimes I get out and walk. At night I usually end up playing video games and browsing the internet. It's all not nearly so high-speed as it sounds. Generally, for all the activity it looks like, I'm quite fat and unhealthy. Go figure.
