Anyone heard of Ivy?
I don't know how popular bands are these days, because I haven't heard more than about an hour of music radio in the last six months.
I really like this band Ivy, which is very much like Garbage, which was in turn kinda like a re-invention of Missing Persons. You take a really precision band with a deep understanding of production and team it with a slutty-sounding soprano to make high-concept pop. The twist in Ivy, I take it, is that the lead singer is French. (In Garbage she was Scottish, and in Missing Persons she was the drummer's wife.) |

Re: Anyone heard of Ivy?
I've heard of them, but couldn't tell you about any of their songs. In looking at Sonicnet, apparently, they've been around for a while.

I have to go after that back-catalogue...
I was trying to think of a band that was similar in the 70s, but I couldn't. Blondie is probably the closest, but they were more punk than precision pop. The disco era gave us that "More More More" by Andrea True Connection, in which the twist was that the lead singer was a porn star. And couldn't sing whatsoever. That gives it an odd charm. But it's not precision pop either. |
